Lab and Clinical Research

Skull Lab TrainingResearch is central to an academic training program. It is never enough to know what others have done in the past. It is essential that we learn from the past, in order to understand all that we still need to learn.

The UNM Department of Neurosurgery conducts both laboratory and patient-centered clinical research programs under the direction of Edwin Nemoto, PhD.

We have developed a state-of-the-art multimodal monitoring system in our unique 24-bed Neuroscience ICU that uses advanced computational techniques.

The department also has received a $15.2 million grant funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to develop a telemedicine program to provide brain injury consults to practitioners throughout New Mexico.

A dozen other clinical research efforts are being conducted with funding from the National Institutes of Health, the private sector and internal departmental support.
